How does Shakeology taste? – What does Shakeology taste like – Review
by Veronica on Apr.13, 2010, under Fitness
Today I received my 30 day supply of Shakeology Greenberry and after my workout I decided to give it a try and I can truthfully say that the taste of this shake (I only mixed it with water) was very disappointing. The “grass” smell of the shake is really strong and when you take that first sip you can actually feel like your just drinking a glass full of grass. The after taste is a little hint of berry but it is quickly overpowered by the “grass” taste. Besides the disappointing taste, the price was outrageous $119.95 not including shipping and handling. The coaches from beachbody.com (the only company that sells this product) claim that this is the best tasting shake ever! well they are lying because interestingly enough they get a portion of the sales if you are a teambeachbody member and have a coach; therefore, they are going to advertise this very strongly. The company has a money back guarantee if you don’t like their product which is a good thing. I’m still going to give it a try for the whole month (force myself to drink it) since it does give you that full feeling after drinking it but I personally will not buy it again after this cycle.

Thanks for the review!
I used to work for a pharmaceutical company that supplied many of the base ingredients to companies such as BeachBody.
Granted that the extracts and enzymes used are quite common I am consistently surprised at the amount of hype that accompanies any of these products.
Upon looking at “The Science” portion of the site I am confronted by several categories of ingredients.
It’s pretty clear from this list that Shakeology contains: Whey protein, Branched Chain Amino Acids, Papain, Bromelain, bifidus regularis, wheatgrass, blueberry power, and a simple concoction of Over the Counter (OTC) water soluble vitamins (B & C).
The end-user could make a delicious homebrew concoction to the same ends by simply mixing:
2 servings Vanilla Whey Protein powder
1 serving flax seed
1 serving wheat grass powder
1 can blueberry yogurt
1/2 cup ice
1/2 cup skim milk
Blend until smooth and enjoy!

Sorry to hear you are disappointed with the product. What a bummer because I understand you want it to be worth your money. I would absolutely agree 100% that in it’s purest form (mixed w/water and ice) it does not taste good. in fact it’s gross! So my hope question is….did you get the recipes? If not ask your coach, especially since you are finishing the 30 days with it-dont’ torture yourself! Cuz with the right ingredients it can be quite yummy! Although chocolate is my fave, the greenberry is really good with skim milk, a little strawberry yogurt, or a packet of crystal light mix! Of course I am writing this as a Beachbody coach, but I really do believe that this is a wonderful product, one of the reasons why I became a coach! Good luck!

It seems like it defeats the purpose of being an easy to use all-in-one meal replacement shake if you have to completely change it before consuming.

Sure defeating the purpose by adding milk or a scoop of PB. END OF THE WORLD!!1111111111!!!

How is it any less easy to simply blend something with milk rather than water? Haha, I think Americans tend to care more about convenience than health– hence, the obesity rates nowadays. I’m not even a coach, but Greenberry Shakeology is fantastic when you mix it with almond milk and a lot of ice. It’s nasty with just water, but so what– don’t USE water! I’ve never gotten a grass taste at all… I work in the culinary industry and have a pretty sharp palate. It’s a complex flavor that is strong, that’s true. But it’s not grassy and like a lot of these other protein shakes that taste like dirt mixed with a Hershey bar.

I agree that the greenberry flavor is VERY strong. However, I LOVE the chocolate. Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Shakology is wonderful. Even my kids ask…beg even…for it. Try it. Also, the greenberry flavor mixed with frozen fruit, papaya, strawberry and mango is good. It somehow kills that grass taste. Also, look up Chalean Johnson’s Shamrock Shake…

I’m not a huge fan of Greenberry myself. It’s OK when mixed with some type of berry or even with Orange Juice but not my favorite!
I do however really like Chocolate. I mix with Ice and water and I’m good to go.
I’ve been using it for about 3 months now and feel great, lost some weight and enjoy it.
Just my thoughts, good luck to everyone out there

To Angie Green. Isn’t putting crystal light in the shake making it artificial? Crystal light has aspartame which is toxic. Isn’t Shakeology supposed to be natural and organic and assists in removing toxins from the body?

I bought the Greenberry on accident so I sent it back to get my full refund. I did everything that was required and bought the Chocolate. This was November of 2010. It is now August 2011 and I never received a refund. What a scam!!!!!!!

It does make sense to why we have to change or add the shake to make it taste great. They should change the price then adding all these ingredients would not be so inconvenient. I tried greenberry and it taste awful, even will all those recipes I could not down the shake. Sure the product is good and healthy. Taste is just a sacrifice.

The greenberry is my least favorite. Chocolate is the way to go.
